BOXING + EDUCATION
The Missoula Boxing Club exists to leverage the appeal of amateur boxing for the purpose of academic achievement, positive mentorship, and healthy citizenship of our youth in northwest Montana.
Our non-profit boxing club is FREE for kids, ages 9-19, but requires that they work on homework before gloving up in the gym. The onsite Academic Center provides volunteer tutors to assist students, as they hit the books before they hit the bags. Missoula Boxing Club works hard to create champions in the ring, and champions in life.
BOOKS BEFORE BAGS
We keep MBC accessible and affordable (as in free*), in exchange for ONE requirement: education. Members of the club are required to get homework finished on-site before practice - the essence of our “Books Before Boxing” program. Modeled after the highly-successful Detroit Downtown Boxing Gym, our hope is to leverage boxing for the sake of education, bringing every kid closer to a successful high school graduation!
At the facility (1633 South Ave.) we provide learning materials, computers, and tutoring assistance. Heck, we even provide free snacks. Upon arrival, students review all assignments with tutors, as well as current grades. Our hope is stay connected enough to help students avoid pitfalls of missed assignments, lack of preparation for tests, etc.
Once a student has finished to the satisfaction of the director, he or she is allowed to glove up!

High-quality afterschool programs’ positive effects on academic performance are of particular importance in establishing positive pathways that avoid lifestyles of crime.
2-6p
In Montana, juvenile crime peaks between 2-6 p.m. on school days.
According to a report from the 2019 Council for a Strong America, 37% of all juvenile crime is committed on those days occurring during the hours following the last school bell.
>300
Number of children in foster care, in the Missoula Area.
Foster children are those who have experienced a level of abuse or neglect in the home. Our programs are meant to provide a safe place and a nurturing environment to those in need of positive adult mentorship.
*FREE? Yup, no monthly cost. There is an initial cost of $75 paid to the organization USA Boxing to become a registered member of our club. This allows for a number of benefits, including insurance coverage during practices and competitions. As for Missoula Boxing Club, our only requirement is the effort put into academic success.
